It’s important to keep a watch on our acid/base balance.
Water is the primary matter in the human body. About 65% of your body weight is water. Our brain, our lungs, and our blood, heart and kidneys are around 80% water. And approximately 70% of our muscles, liver and skin is water.
We need a neutral pH.
Let’s take a look at the acid/base balance and how it can affect our health….
What is pH?
pH stands for potential of hydrogen
It is a numeric scale used to specify the acidity or basicity of an aqueous solution; usually measured on a scale of 0 to 14.
A solution with a pH of 7 is neutral
Solutions with a pH less than 7 are acidic
Solutions with a pH greater than 7 are basic.
Pure water is neutral, at pH 7, being neither an acid nor a base.
Understand how the acid/base balance works in terms of nutrition
pH varies throughout your body
The vital processes in our body take place normally only if our pH is stabilized at about 7.
Our body uses “alkaline blood buffers” to neutralize incoming acidity, as well as the acidity produced by the body itself. This acidifies the pH of the urine, which can be tested to assess our acidity levels relating to deficiencies in trace elements and vitamins.
And if you have a deficiency due to a poor diet, this will result in excessive acidity.
Our bodies have limits!
The human body is perfectly engineered, especially with a wonderful digestive system, but we are mistreating our body by eating too much acidic foods. In the modern world, everything is a rush. We go through our days on autopilot. The daily requirements that make up our daily energy supply (food and drink) are taking last priority. We blindly trust food industry, media, etc.
Our lack of knowledge. Our lack of desire to inform ourselves and discover how our body really works is gradually killing us every day.
Also, modernity is moving faster than we are, and sometimes, to our detriment. We aren’t (yet) made, for example, to consume extremely acidic drinks such as colas! Or taking so much sugar that surrounds us every day! Processed foods! Or even eating huge pieces of meat rich in saturated fat!
Our body is no longer capable of neutralizing and eliminating an excess of acidic substances.
Alkalinity and its importance for our health
A few examples of pH in our body:
Gastric juices = pH of 1.5
Pancreatic secretions have a pH of 8.8.
Our cells have a pH of 6.8 to 7.1.
The most important balance of all:
Our blood has a carefully controlled pH of between 7.35 and 7.45.
Different pH levels promote different types of chemical reactions.
Our health is extremely sensitive to the tiniest variations of the pH of our vital fluids
However, our eating habits tend to be too acidic and can deregulate this balance.
And if the inside of our body becomes too acidic, the toxic acidic wastes will accumulate and cause significant damage to our health.
Many sugary drinks, especially those using cola, are extremely acidic, at about 2.5. Can you imagine how many glasses of alkaline water you’ll need to neutralize the acidity of one glass of cola????????????????
If the body did nothing to react against this, your one and only glass of cola would take the pH of your blood to 4.6, which would kill you instantly.
If your body didn’t work hard for you to fight this onslaught, you’d no longer be with us, immediately after drinking your “favorite” drink.
End of the day – Sweet dreams 🙂
Your body has been confronted with various situations: a long night of sleep is coming up. Eat alkaline for dinner! Eat greens (lettuce, broccolis, cucumber, parsley, avocado, etc.) and have a chamomile tea from your local herbalist! It will help reset the pH of your body!
Day time! – Enjoy the journey 🙂
Don’t forget that you are enjoying each present moment thanks to your most life’s precious give which is your body. But take care of it! Be careful with acidic foods such as sugar, coffee, milk, cereals, meat, alcohol, but also fish, eggs, will eat away at your reserves of minerals.
You need to counteract this with alkaline foods, especially fruit and vegetables. Good examples are quinoa, cabbage, almond, carrot, beetroot.
AND drink natural mineral water, low in minerals, with a pH of greater than 7 and from a glass bottle. Drink a few sips, constantly during the day. Last sip of water 30 minutes before meals and first sip of water at least 1 hour after meals.
The daily need for an adult in roughly 2,5 litres per day (1,5 litres through various drinks and 1 litre absorbed by the body from our food). Quantities are higher in case of physical activity or in a warmer climate.
Good morning! 🙂
Have a warm lemon juice on an empty stomach when you wake up in the morning. While lemons are acidic in their natural form, lemon water is alkaline- forming in the body. And alkalizing the blood is fundamental as disease occur when the body PH is acidic. The body maintains a delicate acid-alkaline balance.
